Blue Planet Aquarium’s spectacular window to an underwater world…

Be sure not to miss one of the daily dive shows in Blue Planet Aquarium’s “Aquatheatre”! With its spectacular view of life in the depths around the reef our presenter will tell you all about the fascinating creatures you’ll see swimming by – including the divers who will be joining in the presentation. If you’re wondering what it’s like to swim amongst more than 1500 fish, including Europe’s largest collection of sharks – now’s your chance to ask!

At least THREE shows daily starting at 11.30am!


The stars of the show are our six large Sand Tiger sharks.
Sand tiger sharks are commonly known as ragged-tooth sharks in South Africa due to their 250 needle like teeth.
Maximum Size: 3.2 M

Dotty our destictive zebra shark (Stegostoma fasciatum or varium) is a species of carpet shark and the sole member of the family Stegostomatidae. Dotty’s long tail makes her easy to spot.


This shark has a distinctive black tip to its dorsal fin.
Maximum Size: 1.9 M


The whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus) is a small shark easily recognisable by its slender body and short but broad head and white-tipped dorsal fin. Its one of the most common sharks found on Indo-Pacific coral reefs
Maximum Size: 1.6 M


The lemon shark, Negaprion brevirostris, is a shark in the family Carcharhinidae. It is called a lemon shark because, at certain depths, light interacting with the water can give this shark a yellow appearance, much like a lemon.
This is a stocky looking shark and easy to spot at Blue Planet Aquarium.
Maximum Size: 3.0 M


These nocturnal bottom dwellers are so named because of their bamboo-like markings.
Maximum Size: 0.75 M


This fish from the western Atlantic can sometimes be seen swimming upside down.
Maximum Size: 60CM


Will set up nest on the ocean floor and guard it fiercely.
Maximum Size: 60CM


Has a smooth skin and deeply forked tail to help speedy swimming.
Maximum Size: 1.2M


They are known for closely following bigger fish such as sharks to gain protection from other predators.
Maximum Size: 1.2M

Fintastic Shark Fact!

The Blue Planet Aquarium Aquatheatre window is actually made of acrylic and is 23cm (8in) thick to hold back the 4 million litres (880,000 gallons) of water of the Caribbean reef. It cost more than £100,000!
