Our commitment to a more sustainable future
At Blue Planet Aquarium, sustainability is part of how we operate, how we educate and how we work with our partners.
As an aquarium, we have a responsibility to protect the oceans and the wider environment. We are continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, use resources responsibly and encourage positive action for the future of our planet.
Sustainable Operations
Reducing our environmental impact
We are continually looking at how we can operate more sustainably, from reducing water consumption and improving water recycling to reducing waste and eliminating single-use plastics.
Our aquarium systems are designed to maximise water reuse, while we monitor water use, identify leaks and explore alternative water sources such as rainwater.
We are also working towards eliminating single-use plastic across our operation, including in our catering and retail areas, while working with suppliers to find more sustainable alternatives.
Our focus includes:
- Reducing water consumption and waste
- Maximising water recycling
- Reducing and ultimately eliminating single-use plastics
- Choosing more sustainable products and packaging
- Working with suppliers who share our sustainability values
Educate & Inspire
Helping people understand the ocean and take action
We believe one of our greatest opportunities is to use our platform to educate and inspire people to become active ocean protectors.
Our sustainability and conservation messages don’t stop when a visitor leaves the aquarium. Through our website, social media, email communications and downloadable resources, we make educational content accessible to people whether or not they are able to visit us in person.
We use animal stories, behind-the-scenes content, educational resources and real-life conservation stories to help people understand the challenges facing our oceans and, importantly, what they can do to help.
Our brand and events are also underpinned by consistent educational and conservation messaging, ensuring these themes reach audiences who may not otherwise actively engage with conservation.

Responsible Partnerships
Working together to create change
We know that meaningful sustainability cannot be achieved alone.
We work with suppliers, partners and other organisations to identify more sustainable products, processes and practices. Our purchasing power across the wider UK group also allows us to influence suppliers and encourage positive changes to packaging, materials and manufacturing.
We seek to work with organisations that share our values and consider sustainability when selecting products and suppliers.
