Shark Diving at Blue Planet Aquarium is one of the best ways to get up close with these wonderful animals. Unlike many wild dives, you’re not contained in a cage, but still perfectly safe. Our team of shark diving experts use their years of experience to guide you through the entire day, from theory and in water training, to during the dive in our incredible Ocean Display to give you an unforgettable experience.

Meet the Shark Dive Team

Together, the team of shark divers have decades of experience under their belt from a range of different backgrounds. Let’s put faces to names by meeting the team.

Adam – Dive Officer & UK Compliance Officer- PADI Instructor & BSAC Instructor

Adam is the Dive Officer at Blue Planet Aquarium and the UK Compliance Officer for Aspro UK, responsible for leading the dive team and ensuring duties are carried out to the highest standard, including feeding and maintenance of exhibits. Adam also works across other UK sites to ensure dive teams remain up to scratch. He’s closely involved in hand and target feeding, especially for the sharks.

Fergus – PADI Instructor

Fergus is a PADI Instructor at Blue Planet Aquarium, playing a key role in the feeding and maintenance of the aquarium’s exhibits. With a strong focus on animal care and diver safety, Fergus helps ensure the tanks are kept in excellent condition while delivering consistent, high-quality husbandry both above and below the water.

Hannah – PADI Instructor

Hannah is one of the divers at Blue Planet Aquarium with experience of teaching diving in different countries. She loves working with the animals, taking care of their wellbeing, and ensuring the tanks are kept in excellent condition. Passionate about teaching, Hannah enjoys sharing her knowledge while helping to maintain the aquarium’s underwater habitats.

Fiona – PADI Instructor

Fiona is a PADI Instructor and helps deliver unforgettable shark dive experiences by sharing the underwater world with guests. She enjoys introducing divers to some of the aquarium’s most impressive residents, particularly the blacktip reef shark who she finds incredibly inspiring and are, not surprisingly, her favourite animal at Blue Planet Aquarium.

Sean – Aquarium Diver – BSAC Instructor

Sean’s passion for diving shines through every time he’s in the water. He loves finding shark teeth left behind by the big sand tiger sharks, reminding him just how special the environment is. Sean loves to give yellow-blue groupers a gentle exfoliation by sprinkling sand onto them – something the fish love too as they’re known for loving diver attention!

Debbie – Aquarium Diver – BSAC Instructor

Debbie is a diver here at Blue Planet Aquarium and loves every moment of diving there. Her favourite animals are the incredible variety of sharks in the exhibits, but with such a wide range of other species to care for, she finds it impossible to choose just one. She truly loves them all.

Carl – PADI Instructor

Carl is one of Blue Planet Aquarium’s longest-serving divers, bringing a wealth of diving experience to the team. Alongside his main role within the NHS, Carl has built an extensive diving history and is passionate about sharing the fun of diving with both adults and children. He loves working with animals and caring for their environments.

Michael – PADI Instructor

Michael is one of the resident divers at Blue Planet Aquarium, responsible for feeding in the Reef and Main Tank and maintaining the cleanliness of smaller exhibits. A qualified PADI Instructor with over 2.5 years of teaching experience, Michael brings a wealth of international diving expertise from the Middle East, Central America and the Caribbean to the aquarium.

Jamie – Dive Master

Jamie is a diver at Blue Planet Aquarium with a varied role that covers a number of different responsibilities, including tank maintenance and feeding across the exhibits. His dedication helps keep the habitats clean, healthy, and thriving, ensuring the animals are well cared for so that they’re content and happy during visitors’ dives.

Charlie – Dive Master

Charlie is a diver at Blue Planet Aquarium, with a varied role that has a particular focus on tank maintenance and feeding across the exhibits. His main roles include keeping the habitats clean and healthy to make sure the animals are well cared for, and enhancing the experience for all visitors, whether you’re diving or simply observing through the glass.

Donovan – PADI Instructor

Donovan is a diver at Blue Planet Aquarium with an incredibly varied role that includes both tank maintenance and feeding across the exhibits. His work helps ensure the habitats remain clean, healthy, and well cared for. With that in mind, Donovan is responsible for supporting the wellbeing of the animals and ensuring visitors have a positive experience.

Sophie – PADI Instructor

Sophie is one of Blue Planet Aquarium’s weekend divers and loves working at the aquarium. She enjoys sharing her skills and experience with people who have an interesting learning to dive, helping them to discover the underwater world and being up close to the amazing animals that call it home, in a compassionate and considerate way.

Now that you know a little bit more about our shark dive team, it’s time for you to meet our sharks! Our team of instructors will ensure that you have a fun and safe time while you’re under the water, so that you can get the most out of your experience.

 

Our shark dives are available to everyone. Our adult shark dives are perfect for those aged 16 and above, allowing you to master the basics of scuba before coming face-to-face with our impressive sharks. Of course, if you’re already a qualified diver, we also offer our qualified shark dives.

 

We also offer junior shark dives for those aged 8-15, with junior divers splashing down to a safe depth of 2 metres while meeting sharks, eels and tropical fish.
