Sharks are apex predators swimming at the top of their marine food chains. So it’s not surprising that they’re often portrayed as scary man-eaters in the media (Jaws, anyone?), but contrary to popular belief, most shark species are actually harmless to humans.
Indeed, despite their scary reputation, most sharks actually prefer to feed on fish and other sea mammals, like seals or dolphins. On top of that, sharks come in different shapes and sizes too, each with their own unique behaviours and fascinating anatomies.
At Blue Planet, we’re keen to tell the real story about sharks. If you think you already know lots about sharks, take a look at these crazy myths and fascinating facts.
Have we changed your opinion of sharks for the better?
If you think you’re brave enough to come face-to-face with some sharks, take a walk through our Underwater Tunnel – home to one of Europe’s largest collections of big sharks – where you can spot sand tiger sharks, lemon sharks, and more!
