We have all marvelled at the spectacular underwater images on National Geographic television programmes. Now with the PADI National Geographic Dive program, you have the opportunity to actively explore and conserve our planet.
National Geographic and PADI work together to raise awareness and educate others about the marine through increased participation in the sport of diving. Founded in 1888, the National Geographic Society is one of the world’s largest non profit scientific and educational organisations.

Instructor Development Course

Assistant instructor
The AI course runs over 4 days which is the first 4 days of the instructor development course. This course takes you through the basics of becoming a dive educator. Qualifying as a AI allows you to progress onto the OWSI course.
What do I need to start ?
- PADI dive master or equivalent
- A minimum of 60 logged dives with night , deep and navigation experience
- A valid medical within (12 months) .
- Current CPR and first aid qualification
- Be 18 years old
What will I do
- Knowledge development through self study , quizzes , lectures and presentations
- Confined water skill review and assessment workshops and presentations
- Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.
Open water scuba instructor ( OWSI )
What do I need to start ?
- PADI assistant instructor or equivalent
- A minimum of 60 logged dives with night, deep and navigation experience.
- One hundred dives is required to start an instructor examination ( IE )
- A valid medical within 12 months
- Current CPR and first aid qualification
- Be 18 years old
What will I do
- Knowledge development through self study , quizzes , lectures and presentations
- Confined water skill review and assessment workshops and presentations
- Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.
- Having at least 100 logged dives prior to entering a PADI instructor exam .
Assistant instructor
The AI course runs over 4 days which is the first 4 days of the instructor development course. This course takes you through the basics of becoming a dive educator. Qualifying as a AI allows you to progress onto the OWSI course.

- PADI divemaster or equivalent
- A minimum of 60 logged dives with night , deep and navigation experience

- Confined water skill review and assessment workshops and presentations
- Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.
Master scuba diver trainer
Encourage your students to take their training to the highest recreational level (master scuba diver) by becoming a PADI master scuba diver trainer.

What do I need to start ?
- Hold five PADI instructor speciality ratings.
- Have at least 25 certifications.
IDC staff instructor
Build on your experience as a PADI master scuba diver trainer and learn how to assist on the PADI instructor development course, whilst learning how to teach the PADI assistant instructor course.
Dates: 29th November 2006 to 30th November 2006
What do I need to start ?
- Be a PADI master scuba diver trainer with 25 certifications or more.
What will I do ?
- Dive theory exams
- PADI standards exam
- Dive skills evaluation
- Knowledge development and microteaching.
- Confined water teaching presentation.
- Audit a full PADI instructor development course
- Learn how to prepare and run the PADI assistant instructor course .
Emergency first response instructor ( EFR ) and care for children
Becoming an EFR instructor enables you to teach the academic and skill development in both the primary and secondary care sections of the EFR program and care for children program , enabling you teach them to demonstration level.
Dates: 10th December 2006 to 11th December 2006
What do I need to start ?
- To be a PADI divemaster or above.
- To have completed primary care CPR, secondary care first aid and EFR care for children course in the last 24 months.

- Scene assessment
- Barrier use
- Primary assessment
- Rescue breathing
- CPR
- Serious bleeding management
- Shock management
- Spinal injury management
- AED and oxygen delivery
- Injury assessment
- Illness assessment
- Bandaging
- Splint for dislocations and fractures.
