Aquarist
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the zoological team here at Blue Planet Aquarium. The zoological department is responsible for the upkeep of displays including our 3.8 million litre shark tank; ensuring animal husbandry is of the highest standard, helping to create modern and innovative displays and participation in ongoing conservation projects.
The role will varied and challenging but extremely rewarding. A hands on approach is required to ensure you achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry. You will be responsible for general maintenance and displays development along with promoting public education and awareness in relation to conservation of biodiversity.
Post requirements:
- A positive, flexible and enthusiastic approach
- Ability to be creative and imaginative
- Ability to listen and provide positive feedback
- Basic practical skills in animal husbandry techniques
- Good customer care skills
- Practical domestic DIY skills e.g. joinery, plumbing etc
- Degree or HND in a biological science or related field
- Experience with maintenance of filtration systems
Desirable attributes:
- Padi Dive master certification (or lower cert with the view to being trained to dive master within 6 months of appointment)
- 2 or more years relevant work experience
- Bachelors degree in Marine Biology/Ecology/Zoology or related animal management qualification
- Experience working with a variety of taxa.
- Working portfolio – including any examples of exhibits you have worked on.
The post will be on an initial six month fixed term contract after which this will be reviewed.

Visitor Services Presenter
Blue Planet Aquarium, has an exciting opportunity to join our Visitor Services Team as part time presenter.
Are you efficient at working within a team, imaginative and have an enthusiasm for sea life?
You would be required to play an active role in the promotion of conservation of sea life through talks and presentations at Blue Planet Aquarium.
Remuneration complies with National Minimum Wage.
Key Duties:
- To promote conservation through education
- To present all the Blue Planet Aquarium animals to our customers
- To provide world class customer service
Post Requirements:
- A positive and enthusiastic nature
- Experience working with members of the public
- Experience in giving presentations would be preferred
- Fully flexible, all year round
Experience with aquatic animals, amphibians and reptiles are desirable but not essential.

Voluntering at Blue Planet Aquarium
Ever wondered what it’s like to be an Aquarist/Animal Keeper? Or Want to gain valuable experience in the field? We offer a 3 month volunteering program which includes:
- One/Two days per week for 3 months
- Full on the job training
- Skills development
- A suitable reference on successful completion of a 3 month period
A short informal interview will be conducted before placements are confirmed. Placements are in demand so commitment is important.

Bristol Aquarium & IMAX Cinema seeks Finance Officer/Cashier
An opportunity has arisen for you to become part of this successful team operating this unique attraction as a Finance Officer/Cashier. A shift system of working 4 days on, 4 days off will apply.
The ideal candidate must have 1 year’s previous experience of working in an accounts environment/cash office ideally within a customer-facing organisation. Candidates should have accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to use initiative as essential skills as well as being self-motivated, a good communicator and able to work as part of a team. Candidates must be familiar with Microsoft Office and be able to use Excel Spreadsheets and Outlook as part of their day-to-day duties. Experience of “SAGE” accountancy package would be an advantage.
Responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for all cash office procedures and duties
- Safe and Secure handling of cash & floats
- Reconciling and inputting daily cash/sales journals onto Sage Accounts
- Inputting Blue Reef Bristol Purchase Ledger Invoices
- Producing Blue Reef Bristol Sales Ledger Invoices plus credit control of Bristol’s debtors
- Other ad hoc duties when required particularly at quiet times
- General Office duties dealing with phone calls, bookings etc
