In addition to the usual regulations governing a business we are also required to have a Zoo Licence and to comply with the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 (amended). Zoo inspectors are required to assess compliance in accordance with the Secretary of States Standards of Modern Zoo Practice.
The Standards are designed to ensure that the welfare of animals in zoos is protected, that zoos are safe places for the public to visit and that zoos participate in appropriate conservation and public education measures.
Both aquariums fully comply with the standards. Deep Sea World passed its interim inspection in June of 2006 and Blue Planet Aquarium passed its full inspection in January 2007.
