Board of Directors

Angel Barrachina (50) Non-Executive Chairman

Angel Barrachina has an MBA degree in business administration (Instituto de Empresa - Madrid) and he is qualified as a member of the Spanish Register of  Auditors. He started his professional career at Arthur Young as an auditor, working for that international firm 4 years (1977-1980). Following this he spent 6 years (1981-1986) as chief accountant at Valmont, S.A., a subsidiary of the American manufacturer of irrigation systems, after which he became the Financial Controller, then the Managing Director of AMF S,A., a subsidiary company of the American Leisure and Sport company, for another 4 years (1987-1990). He joined the Aspro Ocio Group in 1990, first acting as the financial controller of Marineland, S.A. and a year later became the Chief Financial Officer of the Group, until 2000, when he became Company Secretary, with special responsibilities for mergers and acquisitions and with the role of chairman in some of the Aspro Ocio group subsidiaries. He was appointed as Chairman of DSL on 26th September 2002.

Susan Elaiho (39), Executive Director

Susan Elaiho has an MBA (Open University, UK) and is a qualified accountant (FCCA). She started her professional career at Granada Television Ltd in Manchester progressing to the position of Financial Controller. Following the expansion of the business she became the Financial Controller of the Resources division of Granada Media Group (1984 – 1997). Following the Granada Group takeover of Forte Hotels she was appointed as Financial Controller for Posthouse Hotels responsible for 82 hotels across the UK and Ireland (1997-1999). Whilst completing her MBA she took on several project roles as senior finance advisor in advertising, telecoms and IT services culminating as Project Accountant for First National Bank Vehicle Leasing Division (2000-2002). She joined DSL as Financial Controller in 2003 additionally performing the role of Company Secretary. She was appointed to the Board of Directors on 29 April 2004.

Carlos Marina (48), Non Executive Director

Carlos Marina has a degree in economics and has attended a wide number of courses along his professional career. He joined Gillette in 1981, where he held different marketing positions. In 1987 he moved into Kraft Foods where after different jobs in marketing he was promoted to Foodservice Business Director for Spain and Portugal, a position that he left behind to join British American Tobacco in 1996 to become Sales and Distribution Director. In 1998 he was appointed as Managing Director of the McLane Logistic Company where he achieved a complete turnaround of the business. Finally, in February 2004 he accepted a position in Aspro as Managing Director for the whole European business of the firm. He was appointed as member of the Board of Directors of DSL on 5th March 2004.

Michael Denny (64), Non Executive Director

Michael Denny was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Deep Sea Leisure plc on 20 November 2000. He is executive chairman of Northern Venture Managers and a non-executive director of Northern Investors Company PLC, Northern Venture Trust PLC and Northern 2 VCT PLC. He trained in marketing with Procter & Gamble, then ran his own private industrial holding company before joining the National Enterprise Board as North-East regional director in 1981. He was managing director of Northern Investors Company from 1984 to 1988, when he became executive chairman of NVM. He is a former council member and past chairman of the British Venture Capital Association.
